- קִרְקֵש(= קשקש; cmp. כַּרְכֵּש II) to knock, clap, ring. Tosef.Sabb. XIII (XIV), 17 אין מְקַרְקְשִׁין לאוכ׳ you must not ring a bell or a clapper for a child Gen. R. s. 12 מְקַרְקֶשֶׁת בקרניה she knocks with her horns (against the rocks); Yalk. Ps. 862 מְקַשְׁקֶשֶׁת; (Midr. Sam. ch. IX מַקֶּשֶׁת, v. נָקַש).
